Umbraco

Four of the newest features and changes to be aware of in the latest version of Umbraco, Umbraco 12

Umbraco is one of the most popular CMS platforms in the world, with a dedicated community of developers and users. It’s known for delighting businesses and users by being superbly flexible, easy to learn and maintain and being packed with an ever-growing glut of available features thanks to its highly active developer community. With brands like Volvo, Carlsberg, Mercedes-Benz, and Dominos Pizza all choosing to trust their businesses to Umbraco - you can see why we recommend it so highly.

What’s new in Umbraco 12?

The latest Umbraco version, Umbraco 12, was released in June 2023. For brands who are yet to upgrade or those looking to switch - here’s some of the newest features and changes to be aware of.

1. A new, more flexible framework

The updated version introduced cross-platform compatibility and greater performance by switching to the .NET 5 (.NET Core) platform. This means even more developers can work with Umbraco using their preferred platform, including MacOS and Linux - which will only result in even more developers joining and contributing to the Umbraco community.

2. Umbraco as a headless CMS

One of the biggest new features in Umbraco 12 is out-of-the-box support for using Umbraco as a headless CMS with the new Content API. This means that developers can now use Umbraco to manage content for any type of application, not just websites. The headless CMS option allows developers to use Umbraco as a content provider for mobile apps, IoT devices, and other types of applications.

3. Improved Content Editing

Umbraco is already known for being a dream for content management. Umbraco’s new Content Apps feature allows developers to create custom interfaces for editing content, making it even easier for non-technical users to manage content.

4. Improved Performance & future-proofing

Umbraco 12 has also been optimised for performance. The new version includes a range of performance improvements, including faster page load times and improved server response times. This allows Umbraco developers and designers to continue to push the envelope with creative and innovative solutions and content without sacrificing performance.
