We, the Yoyo girls, had the pleasure of having the lovely Siobhan Young at our offices last week for a style workshop. Yoyo often runs lots of different activities to inspire and boost the team’s creativity. Apart from inviting speakers to run workshops, we have activities such as office yoga, sports, quiz night and more, which all help to give the team engaging, yet relaxing experiences.

Siobhan is a personal stylist based in Tunbridge Wells. She moved to the UK from Australia and now runs her own company WellStyled, helping people understand the do’s and don’ts of fashion. When she’s not hosting a style event, she’s detoxing a client’s wardrobe or out personal shopping with them. It was definitely very exciting to have the opportunity to learn firsthand from a fashion expert.

We started off the workshop with a little introduction about ourselves. Siobhan asked each of us to describe our personal styles and what we hoped to get out of the two-hour session, as she took some notes down. Next we discussed how to make a first good impression, be it with a smile or just by making eye contact.

Following on from this, Siobhan told us about the 7 step formula to stylish dressing, which included personality and branding. This led on to the next section of the workshop – “discovering your personal brand and how to match it to the way you dress”. Siobhan herself was a great example of this. She was fun, friendly and confident and all of these reflected in the way she carried herself. I learnt that in embodying your personal brand, you should be honest with who you are, and realising your values and your personality can lead you to discover the way you want to present yourself to the world.

Next on the agenda was … colours! Colours are extremely important in styling but people often forget to consider them when choosing what to wear. Siobhan explained the psychology of each colour, from the power and fierceness of red, to the sensitivity of purple. She placed her seasonal colour cloth swatches against us and we were able to see this for ourselves. She also told us about an amazing app called Personal Colour Swatch which helps you pair the right colours together (you should definitely download it, I certainly will for my next shopping trip).

What intrigued me most about Siobhan was how accurately she could tell what outfit pieces and colour shades complemented our body types, skin tones and facial features, and the ones that were a no-go. To round off the workshop, she gave each of us a colour palette that was the perfect fit for us.

One thing I took from the session was this: the way you look affects the way you think, feel, speak and act (which I can fully relate to). It was an inspiring and informative workshop, and we all left ready to take on the world of work with some truly fierce and fabulous looks.

Siobhan has an upcoming workshop in Tunbridge Wells on 19th July, so I urge you to attend! All you need to do is email her at [email protected], and you can get a 20% discount if you mention ‘Yoyo’ when booking! For more details, click here.
