The project was run in partnership with Air BP and Yoyo were employed to provide the UI Design across the iOS tablet application. We worked closely with the UX agency who provided a set of key wireframes together with extensive audience research so that we could ensure that the UI design would meet and exceed the expectations of the pilots. We also worked closely with RocketRoute to evolve their brand so that the app could adopt a simpler, cleaner level of styling which was more contemporary in its overall aesthetic.
All of the designs were tested in bright sunlight conditions to simulate a pilot using the application within the cockpit of an aircraft. Through a process of testing and iterating, we refined the UI experience to ensure that we applied adequate contrast ratios, legible text, and a good level of affordance on interactive elements to eliminate poor usability.
In addition to designing 20 key pages for the app, we also used Principle to mock-up interaction prototypes which would show RocketRoute’s development team how any animated UI element should behave. As part of our delivery, we supplied layered PSD’s for each page and a UI Kit to help maintain design consistency across all of the individual elements and to serve as a central reference area for the designers and developers. We also designed a bespoke set of icons for the application which could be used across other digital products.
The UI design cycle was completed within 4 weeks and included a hand-over session with RocketRoute’s development team as well as ongoing design support as and when it was needed.
