Inclusive Design
We believe in a digital world without barriers.
Our Yoyo mission is to help Good Brands succeed, so that they can deliver an even greater impact to society and the planet. As a B Corp, Yoyo is committed to ethical business practices. True impact is only possible when digital experiences are inclusive of everyone, regardless of their physical, cognitive, or situational circumstances.
Accessibility helps Yoyo to achieve our goals through:
Increasing the reach of our clients by ensuring their message is perceivable by the 20% of the population living with a disability.
Enhancing usability for all. Accessible design is simply better design; it improves the experience for mobile users, older audiences, and those in challenging environments.
-
1. Accessibility is a non negotiable
-
Every design decision should be grounded in our agency’s purpose. We view WCAG compliance not as a checkbox, but as a moral and strategic foundation for every project.
-
2. Creativity without compromise
-
Accessibility isn’t a creative constraint; it’s a catalyst for innovation. We use inclusive requirements to push the boundaries of how we present information beautifully and functionally.
-
3. Human-first testing
-
Tools and automated checkers are helpful, but they don't replace lived experience. We prioritize empathy and human feedback to ensure our work functions in the real world, not just in a lab.
-
4. Continuous evolution
-
The digital landscape and accessibility standards (WCAG) are always changing. We are committed to a culture of ongoing learning to stay ahead of legal requirements and emerging assistive technologies.
-
5. Trust through transparency
-
We are clear with our clients about the accessibility status of their platforms. We believe in building digital products that protect our clients’ reputations and foster trust with their entire audience.
Transparency with clients
Why it matters:
Clients need to understand the level of compliance their site achieves and how it impacts their legal and ethical standing.
How we do this:
Include accessibility goals in every Statement of Work (SoW).
Provide clear accessibility statements for every website we launch.
Security and Assistive Technology
Why it matters:
To ensure privacy, our accessible implementations must work seamlessly with screen readers and software without compromising user data.
How we do this:
We use standard, semantic HTML5 which is natively understood by assistive tech, avoiding "hacks" that could lead to data vulnerabilities.
Accountability and Attribution
Why it matters:
Accessibility is a team-wide responsibility. It is not just the "developer's job" or the "designer's job."
How we do this:
Establish "Accessibility Champions" within every department (Design, Dev, PM).
Integrate accessibility reviews into our standard "Definition of Done."
Accuracy and Verification
Why it matters:
Automated tools only catch about 40% of accessibility issues. Manual verification is essential.
How we do this:
Conduct manual keyboard-only navigation tests on all primary user flows.
Use color contrast analyzers and screen reader testing (NVDA/VoiceOver) before any site goes live.
-
1. Is it perceivable?
-
Are we providing high-quality alt-text for images?
Is there enough color contrast for text and interface elements?
-
2. Is it operable?
-
Can the entire site be navigated without a mouse?
Are interactive elements (buttons/links) large enough to hit easily?
-
3. Is it understandable?
-
Is the navigation consistent and predictable?
Are error messages clear and helpful rather than confusing?
-
4. Is it robust?
-
Does the code follow W3C standards?
Will it work on older devices and different types of assistive software?
How we build for Accessibility
Below is an insight into how Accessibility is integrated across Yoyo
-
Design
-
We use inclusive design frameworks to ensure visual impact never comes at the cost of clarity.
Tools & Use Cases:
Figma (Stark/A11y plugins)
Adobe Color Contrast,
High-contrast style guides.
-
Development
-
We build with a "Semantic-First" approach, ensuring the skeleton of the site is accessible before the skin is applied.
Tools & Use Cases:
WAVE,
Axe DevTools,
Lighthouse,
Screen Reader testing (NVDA, VoiceOver).
-
Project Management
-
Project Management We ensure accessibility is a core KPI from the discovery phase through to delivery.
Tools & Use Cases:
Scoro (tracking accessibility audits),
WCAG 2.2 Checklists.
-
